Malini Subramaniam conferred with International Press Freedom Award

Malini Subramaniam, Journalist of India was selected for 2016 International Press Freedom Award.



Malini has been conferred this award for reporting from the Naxal-infested Bastar village area and for her commitment. Among 4 journalists, the Committee has selected Malini to Protect Journalists for this year’s honor. Others journalists are Can Dundar (Turkey), Oscar Martinez (El Salvador) and Abou Zeid (Egypt). Malini Subramaniam is a reporter to the Scroll.in news website .malini-subramaniam-conferred-with-international-press-freedom-award




» She made reports on sexual violence against women, extrajudicial killings, abuses by security forces and police, jailing of minors, shutdown of schools, threats against journalists and extrajudicial killings in Bastar region in Chattisgarh.

IPFA – International Press Freedom Award:

» IPFA respects journalists or their publications all over the world for their courage in protecting press freedom despite facing threats, attacks or imprisonment.

» IPFA award was started in the year 1991. It is organized by CPJ – Committee to Protect Journalists, an an independent NGO based in New York, US.

» To Identify the dedicated journalists, CPJ focuses on media coverage in local and international level where the press freedom is position is not good.
